Here is why being yourself in business is key.

This morning I was on my way to my internship. I sat in the train and I was listening to my favourite Dutch podcast on my phone. It’s really great to start your day with a motivational podcast about personal development and entrepreneurship.

When I was listening to that podcast they’ve inspire me with something:

Being yourself in business is key.

This sounds very familiar but almost nobody does it in my business surroundings. That is why I want to write a short story about it today.

Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.

— Steve Jobs

Are you being yourself in your own business? It’s strange how we change along the way if we grow and expanding our businesses.

We all inspired by some huge entrepreneurs like Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and Richard Branson for instance. But why are they so successful wit their businesses? We can follow very different theories about the succes of the most of these entrepreneurs on this globe.

But they thank their succes to the one key ingredient.

Being yourself.

My thought was always to simply sell my service to other people and organisations but that doesn’t work. If you don’t now why you do what you do you can better stop. When I begin to search for my why I found a seminar on YouTube from the motivational speaker Simon Sinek.

Most companies are working from the what to the why. Next time you think about your future plans for your company, think about why, then how and then what.

Steve Jobs had a clear why with his visions on Apple. If you be interested in finding your why, I can strongly recommend the book ‘Start With Why’ written by Simon Sinek.

A satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all.

— Michael LeBoeuf

But what have your why to do with being yourself in your company?

If you be yourself in your own business you communicate that automatic to the outside world. If that happen, people are going to compare their values with yours. It is almost biology.

The conclusion is in one phrase to summarize. Last week I heard a very good quote: ‘your business need to support your lifestyle, not the other way around’. It opened my eyes.

Be yourself in your business. It is so much more fun.

Thanks for reading! It is a little bit a short story because I’ve been busy lately. I hope you liked it anyway :)
